Acne can occur at any age, it is usually associated with hormones, age, stress, medication, genetic make-up and skin care. Each of these triggers causes the sebaceous glands to produce too much sebum, which is created naturally to lubricate skin and hair. This excess sebum combines with dead skin cells to plug the follicle.
If Propionibacterium Acne bacteria (which live at the base of each hair follicle and flourish under the low oxygen conditions created by the plug) is present, Acne is formed. These bacteria infect the plugged follicles leading to the formation of painful nodules and cysts.
Spots/Acne can make you feel miserable and want to hide away, so its important to deal with it effectively using the correct products and treatments.
Professional products are best for this as they usually contain Glycolic,Salicylic and Lactic acid which deals with deep cleansing, exfoliation, regeneration and stimulation at the deeper levels of the skin. This helps with deep infection and possible scarring/pigmentation.
Acne scarring can sometimes develop as a complication of acne. Any type of acne spot can lead to scarring, but it is more common when the most serious types of spots (nodules and cysts) burst and damage nearby skin.Scarring can also occur if you pick or squeeze your spots, so it is important not to do this.
Scarring is damaged skin so it needs to be removed and refined at the surface whilst collagen and elastin needs to be stimulated and repaired at the deeper levels.
There are three main types of acne scars:
ice pick scars – small, deep holes in the surface of your skin that look like the skin has been punctured with a sharp object
rolling scars – caused by bands of scar tissue that form under the skin, giving the surface of the skin a rolling and uneven appearance
boxcar scars – round or oval depressions, or craters, in the skin..
